SUAREZ ONE OF THE BEST

The Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has praised the striker Luis Suarez by saying that there are very few players in the world who have been playing better than Suarez in recent months. The Uruguay striker came to Anfield with a reputation of scoring several goals during his spell with the Dutch club Ajax.  Even though he was famed for his dribbling skills in his first season with Liverpool, he never hit the heights when it came to goal scoring abilities. The striker managed just 11 goals in the Premier league last season, but the 2012-13 season has been extremely different.

Suarez is currently competing with the Manchester United striker Robin van Persie for the Golden Boot award despite playing for Liverpool team that are currently outside the top four positions. The 26-year-old has managed to find the back of the net and 26 occasions this season, which also includes 18 league goals as well. This has led to the praise from the captain Gerrard, who has said that there are few players capable of boasting a better record in recent months than Suarez. Only Robin van Persie has managed to score more goals than Suarez this season. The former Arsenal man has 19 goals compared to the 18 goals of Suarez.

“For me he’s been player of the year, across this league and a lot more leagues. There are probably only one or two people who you could say have been better than him this season. How much better can he get? I’m not sure, but it’s a scary thought if he does improve on how he’s been performing this season. You remember top players for games like this – important goals and big performances that turn situations in your favour,” said Gerrard, whose Liverpool team crashed out of the Europa league on aggregate against Zenit St Petersburg.
